Is there an independent body to police the veracity of information presented in political advertising.?

The ASA (Advertising Standards Authority) does not regulate political advertising regardless of how inaccurate or misleading it may be.

From a recent response to a complaint:

"We are unable to investigate complaints about advertising which aims to influence voters in elections or referendums. To do so would be to interfere with the democratic process."

Basically, that means that political advertising is allowed to lie and deliberately mislead without challenge.

Your "Basically" is the answer !
